High School Travel

Have you heard about Oakstone Academy’s $200 trip to Spain, France, and Italy? It is true. This exciting and “once in a lifetime experience” is available to students attending our high school. Although most people think of a European trip as simply fun, Oakstone Academy students find it to be one of the best educational experiences of their lives.

Europe through the Lens

In May of 2008 the freshmen of Oakstone Academy were given the once in a lifetime chance to travel to Europe. They flew first to Barcelona, Spain. They walked the colorful streets taking full advantage of the great photographic opportunities. Then they traveled to Monaco, expensive cars and foreign culture surrounding them. Finally they went to Italy, seeing the ruins of Pompeii as well as the ancient Coliseum. The student’s experiences and perspectives through which they saw the culture have been captured in the photographs that are now on display.

Oakstone Academy recognizes the importance of increasing our students’ awareness of the world around them. Community experiences, expert guest speakers, and interactive social studies software offer knowledge of history and current events in an exciting and challenging manner. However, it is well established that we learn more by doing and Oakstone Academy is committed to accomplishing this outcome for its students.

There has never been a more important time to explore beyond our cultural borders and boundaries with the goal of helping our students gain a genuine appreciation for the increasingly interconnected and interdependent nature of our national and international community. Oakstone Academy educational travel program is an opportunity for our students to learn about their world through seeing, experiencing, and interacting.

Depending on the destination, concepts from English, math, science, social studies, and the arts are integrated throughout the school year in a manner that capitalizes on the learners travel experience. Learning objectives throughout the school year are used to tailor the experience for the highest level of educational benefit. All students have a responsibility throughout the trip to participate in a group learning project that will be used upon return to document the students’ experiences.

Oakstone Academy strives through its educational travel program to promote personal growth in our students by clarifying their purpose and relationship with others, while inspiring them to understand a dynamic and ever-changing world around them.

Educational travel programs are offered to high school students for 10% of the actual cost of the trip. Oakstone Academy is committed to supporting all students in this program, regardless of family income.
